All of our Open Water training is done at Stoney Cove in Leicestershire. It is an inland quarry geared towards diver training and instruction. The facilities are modern and provide a safe environment for diver training at all levels.
The facilities include a pub, dive shop , cylinder fill station , changing rooms (with showers) and toilets.
Underwater it has multiple depth levels from 8m to 35m which are ideal for diver training. It also has many underwater 'attractions' to explore !

Discover Scuba introduces the basic safety information and then allows you to try scuba diving under the close supervision of a PADI professional in a swimming pool. This is a great opportunity to try scuba diving before committing yourself to the full Open Water Diver course.

COURSE DESCRIPTION: The Discover Scuba experience consists of a brief introduction to your equipment, basic safety procedures and some hand signals, followed by your first breaths underwater!
The open water course is the entry level PADI qualification - once completed this course certifies you to dive worldwide to 18 metres with a buddy

COURSE DESCRIPTION
1. Knowledge Development - This gives you the basic principles and knowledge needed for safe and enjoyable diving. There are five modules. These are studied in your own time using the Open Water Diver Manual. You then meet with an instructor to go over what you have learnt, ensuring you understand it thoroughly.
2. Pool Dives – In the pool you will have a basic swimming skills test – 200 metre swim and a 10 minute float. You will then learn the skills required to become a safe diver, as well as experiencing your first breaths underwater!
3. Open Water - Four open water dives are required for certification. Two dives are conducted per day. You now get a chance to put to practice what you learnt in the pool and a taste of the adventures that lie ahead.
The PADI Open Water Referral course involves completing the knowledge development and pool dives in the Open Water Diver course and then leaving the open water qualifying dives for completion up to a year later either in the UK or abroad.

The PADI Advanced Open Water Course provides you with a structured means to explore special diving interests and gain dive experience. This is where your adventures really begin!! No more classrooms – you go on proper dives, building up your experience and practising your skills.
PREREQUESITES: Minimum age 10, PADI Open Water Diver or have an equivalent certification from another training organisation.
DURATION: 5 dives usually over 2 days.

COURSE DESCRIPTION: The advanced course consists of 5 dives: 2 core dives and 3 elective dives. The elective dives you may choose will depend on various environmental factors. Your instructor will help you choose these.
There are no exams or classroom work on this course: you just need to read the relevant sections of the Adventures in Diving manual and complete the knowledge reviews.

The Rescue Diver and Emergency First Response (EFR) course are important steps in expanding your knowledge and experience beyond a purely recreational level. As a rescue diver you will learn to look beyond yourself to consider the safety and well-being of other divers. The course readies you to help prevent problems and, if necessary, manage dive emergencies using a variety of techniques. The course is great fun and will significantly build your confidence as a diver.
PREREQUESITES
Minimum age 12, with 20 logged dives. PADI Advanced Open Water diver or have an equivalent certification from another training organisation. You should be in relatively good health and fitness. To complete the course you should have a current first aid and CPR qualification - at Oxford Dive Centre we offer the EFR Primary and Secondary care course which fulfils this requirement.

KNOWLEDGE DEVELOPMENT
You study in your own time using the Rescue Diver manual and then meet with an instructor to go over the knowledge reviews in the Rescue Diver manual, complete the final exam (multiple choice) and make sure you have a sound understanding of all the topics.
Topics include self rescue, diver stress, diving first aid, emergency management and equipment considerations.
CONFINED WATER TRAINING SESSIONS
There are pool training sessions consisting of a total of 10 skills. These include self rescue, tired diver, panicked diver, response from the shore/ boat/ dock (responsive diver), distressed diver underwater, missing diver, surfacing the unresponsive diver, unresponsive diver at the surface, exiting the unresponsive diver, first aid for pressure related injuries and oxygen administration, and response from the shore or boat (unresponsive diver).
OPEN WATER SCENARIOS
There are 4 open water scenarios where you put everything you learnt in confined water to practise! These take the form of realistic practice emergencies in the open water dive environment.
The Divemaster course is the first PADI professional certification. At Oxford Dive Centre this course is completed on an internship basis: you work alongside our instructors. This course lets you progress at your own pace from being a purely recreational diver to a PADI professional and role model diver.

60 logged dives documenting experience in night diving, deep diving and underwater navigation.

COURSE DESCRIPTION
KNOWLEDGE DEVELOPMENT: This is conducted through classroom lectures, home study and 8 multiple choice exams (physics, physiology, equipment, decompression theory and the RDP, dive skills and the environment, divemaster conducted programs, supervising certified divers and supervising students).
WATERSKILLS AND STAMINA: By the end of the course you will complete: 400 metre timed swim, 15 minute tread water, 800 metre snorkel swim, 100 metre tired diver tow, rescue assessment (simulated rescue of a non breathing diver on the surface), mask removal skill to demonstration quality, and the 20 skills as learnt in the Open Water course.
REQUIRED TRAINING EXERCISES: These include: mapping project (survey a dive site and draw a map from it), equipment exchange (exchange all equipment except weights and wetsuit with another diver while buddy breathing underwater), and a Divemaster conducted programme (organise an actual or simulated PADI Discover Snorkelling, Scuba Review, Discover Local Diving).
INTERNSHIP: To qualify as a Divemaster you will be required to participate in: 1 Open Water Diver course in confined water, 4 other confined water sessions on any PADI course, 1 Open Water Diver course in open water, 1 open water session for any continuing education PADI course, 3 other open water sessions on any PADI course and 1 session supervising certified divers in open water.
Emergency First Response is PADI's new first aid and CPR course. It teaches you to provide emergency care for someone in need and is based on internationally recognized medical guidelines for emergency care. This course is suitable for divers and non divers and meets the requirements for 'appointed person' in the workplace. To qualify as a rescue diver you need to have current CPR training and the first part of this course fulfils this requirement.
