Peak Performance Buoyancy Speciality

Observe aquatic life without disturbing their surroundings. Improve the buoyancy skills you learned as a new diver and elevate them to the next level.

The PADI Peak Performance Buoyancy Specialty course improves the buoyancy skills you learned as a new diver and elevates them to the next level. Having great buoyancy control is what often defines a skilled scuba diver. Gliding effortlessly through the water with control over your buoyancy can lead to many important advantages in scuba diving. Firstly you use less air, due to your more controlled and relaxed breathing. You can ascend, descend or hover at will, and observe more aquatic life without disturbing their surroundings.

Through hands-on training during two scuba dives and some previous theory, you'll learn:

  • how to optimise your weight system and scuba gear for a dive
  • how to always be in control over your buoyancy, whether in a wet suit or a dry suit
  • efficient finning techniques to move effortlessly through the water
  • how to hover effortlessly in any position
  • how to navigate tight spaces underwater
  • what streamlining and trim are, and why they are important

The PADI Peak Performance Buoyancy course can also count towards one of the adventure dives for the Advanced Open Water course.

All the equipment necessary for the course can be supplied by Oxford Dive Centre.
