NAD-Lembeh Resort is the Lembeh Strait’s dedicated destination for serious macro divers and underwater photographers. World-renowned for critter diving in the black sand bays of North Sulawesi. We combine expert photo-focused dive guides, a fully equipped camera room, and small-group diving with comfortable, good-value accommodation — all in one of Indonesia’s most extraordinary marine environments.
The Lembeh Strait is widely considered the muck diving capital of the world — and for good reason. The black sand dive sites are home to an extraordinary density of rare critters: frogfish, mimic octopus, blue-ringed octopus, rhinopias, nudibranchs, and hundreds more. Beyond the muck, we also run wall dives, technical dives, and big fish dives across the island — plus NAD-Lembeh’s famous blackwater night diving, where the open ocean delivers pelagic larvae and creatures found nowhere else.
The lunar cycle during the trip is approximately:
21 April 2028 – Waning Crescent
24–25 April – New Moon
27–30 April – Waxing Crescent to First Quarter
1 May 2028 – Waxing Gibbous
So the trip begins under very dark skies around the New Moon, then gradually brightens towards the return journey.
From a diving perspective, that is actually excellent timing because:
Blackwater diving is often best around the darker moon phases, particularly near the New Moon, when pelagic larvae and deep-water creatures tend to rise closer to the surface.
The darker nights early in the trip should produce fantastic conditions for night dives and blackwater photography.
Later in the trip, the waxing moon gives brighter evenings and beautiful sunset/moonrise conditions around the resort.
